Title: C-C bond-forming dearomatization of pyridines and quinolines without preactivation

Abstract:

C−C bond-forming dearomatization of electron-deficient heteroarenes remains the most efficient and straightforward method to access partially or fully saturated heterocycles, such as dihydroquinolines, tetrahydroquinolines, dihydropyridines, tetrahydropyridines and piperidines. We have developed synthetic methods that could convert pyridine and quinoline derivatives to various partially saturated pyridine and quinoline derivatives, including dihydropyridines, dihydropyridines, tetrahydropyridines and tetrahydroquinolines. The synthetic methods are all performed in a one-pot operation under transition-metal- and reductant-free conditions. These findings will not only provide highly efficient and concise synthetic methods for complex partially saturated pyridine and quinoline derivatives, but also provide new ideas for the selective saturation and functionalization of heteroaromatics.

Biography:

Dong Wang is currently an associate professor at Xinjiang University. He obtained a B. Eng. degree and a M. Eng. degree from Beijing Institute of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Louisiana State University (USA, 2011). After his Ph.D., he successively worked in two pharmaceutical companies. He then worked as an associate professor at Tianjin University of Science and Technology until 2020. His research is focused primarily upon the development of new strategies and methodologies for the synthesis of nitrogen heterocycles, including complex pyridine and quinoline derivatives, dihydropyridine and dihydroquinoline derivatives, tetrahydropyridine and tetrahydroquinoline derivatives, etc. (group website: https://www.x-mol.com/groups/wang_dong)
